Lunch Break Adventures: Dude, Where's My Wallet?

My friend is big on couponing. One week Osem Israeli Pickles were on sale at a distant grocery store for 99 cents a can. Her husband is a big fan of these pickles. Of course, when they got to the store they were all sold out. Or was it that they bought out the stock then went back in line for a rain check? Or maybe they didn't purchase them because it was 3 weeks until Pesach? Regardless, they ended up with a rain check for up to 24 cans of Israeli Pickles at 99 cents each. The grocery store they originally went to never seemed to restock, but I have two branches of the same chain near my office and I offered to use my lunch break for a Pickle Hunting Adventure. The rain check expires in a week, so they dropped it off at my house last night, along with a check they owed us.

I decided to first stop at the bank ATM to deposit the check. I pulled up to the ATM and rifled through the suitcase i call my purse to find my mini wallet holding my ATM card. After 5 minutes of searching (don't worry, i left the ATM lane for this) i decided it was missing. I'm hoping its at home under the bed or something.

Could you imagine if i had gone to the grocery store, piled 24 cans of Israeli Pickles into my cart, onto the conveyor belt, and into a bag, only to discover I couldn't pay for them? Awkward!

Once I was out and about for my break without a wallet i didn't know what to do... Then i remembered a $5 starbucks card in a suitcase purse pocket, so i ventured out to starbucks.

I waited in line longer than necessary. There was one girl taking orders, and a dude making the drinks. During lunch hour. I ordered a tall iced vanilla latte with skim milk. I saw her mark a hot cup instead of a plastic cold cup. I kind of wondered....
Then the guy behind me ordered a grande ice coffee, and she took a tall cup then asked him if he ordered tall or grande. He told her a grande. She switched the cup size. I took this chance to ask her if I had mentioned ICED latte or not, she embarrassed said i did, and switched the hot cup for a plastic one.

By this point the line had reached the exit, and dude making drinks started taking orders over all of the machines. He put mine out "grande nonfat iced vanilla latte"
Grande??? Not that I mind, seeing as it was larger than what i paid for and not smaller. Although, i am a bit more jittery than usual...

I wonder how many mistakes the poor girl taking orders made today.... I know all too well how difficult it can be to be that anonymous "girl behind the counter" or "head in the window". I hope people were easy on her today.

coming soon... the Pickle Hunting Adventure continues!

Lunch Break Adventures

My 30 minute lunch break is often my only refuge from the stress of my work day. I try to venture out of the building as much as possible, but a destination is needed. I will often use this time to run errands, pick up a slurpee, or wander aimlessly around CVS. More on CVS and why i love it so much later.

On days that I can't think of anywhere to go, or the weather is too treacherous to venture out, i sit in the office with the windows closed, yet somehow i still get accosted by staff members and students with no respect for the lunch break. I do not dare enter the staff lounge, i might as well stick a target on my forehead. Plus, it reeks in there.

Keep an eye out for the LBA tag and Lunch Break Adventures title for tales of my exciting lunch breaks.
